The makes we repair

Pick your make and we will show you what its fault codes mean.

Unfamiliar badge? It is usually a familiar boiler

Worth reading if you have been told nobody works on yours.
Some of the makes above are built by the same company that builds a much bigger brand, using the same parts inside. So the fault codes are the same, the parts are the same, and an engineer who knows the big name already knows yours.
Make Shares its platform with What that means for you
Potterton Baxi, same group Looks like an orphan brand and is not one
Main Baxi, same group Same parts, different arithmetic on repair
Heatline Vaillant Group F75 means what it means on a Vaillant
Remeha Baxi, same group Grades its own codes by how serious they are
Did you know "Nobody works on that make" usually means nobody could be bothered to find the part. If somebody tells you that, ask them two questions: which part, and which supplier did you try? A real problem has an answer to both. And on a boiler that shares its parts with a bigger brand, the part is usually sitting on a shelf under the bigger brand's number.
No gas supply? Plenty of London flats run without one, so we also cover electric boiler repair.

An unfamiliar badge is usually a familiar boiler

Some of the makes we cover are built by a bigger manufacturer using the same parts, so the codes and the parts are theirs. Tell us the name on the front and we will work out the rest.

What a fault code actually tells you

Every make uses different numbers, but they all mean the same sort of thing.
A fault code tells you which safety device stopped the boiler. It does not always tell you which part broke. That is why the same number can mean three different repairs. An ignition code, for example, might mean there was no spark, or a spark but no flame, or a flame the boiler could not see. When you ring, read the code out exactly as it appears, letters and dots and all, because on some makes the format changes what it means. And tell us the first code you saw, not the one showing now. Some boilers count how many times you have pressed reset and put their own code over the top of the real one.
Out of hours: we say honestly whether it is a tonight job or a morning job, which is what emergency boiler repair is for. Landlords: the same visit can cover the gas safety certificate.

No gas supply? We cover electric as well

Plenty of London flats have no gas at all.
There is no flue, no gas valve and nothing burning, so different things go wrong. Usually the heating element, the switch that feeds it, the pressure vessel or the wiring. Less can fail than on a gas boiler, but what does fail is electrical, and it needs somebody who sees them often. See electric boiler repair.

Where our engineers work

North and south of the river.

These are where we work most, not a boundary. An engineer attends anywhere in north London and south London. Tell us where you are and we will say plainly when we can get to you.

Give us your postcode and we will say whether it is same day or next.
Safety
If you smell gas: do not touch any switches. Open the windows, leave the property, then call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999. That line is free and open 24 hours. Call them before you call us. If a carbon monoxide alarm is sounding: get everyone out immediately, then call 999 if anyone feels unwell. Do not go back in until the property has been ventilated and checked. If the boiler locks out repeatedly: try one reset. If it locks out again straight away, stop. Repeated resets hide a fault that is still there, and on a gas appliance that is not a risk worth taking. Under the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998, only a Gas Safe registered engineer may work on gas appliances. Never open the boiler casing yourself.

Questions about the makes we cover

How many boiler makes do you repair?

Every make in the grid above has its own page explaining what its fault codes mean, from Worcester Bosch and Vaillant through to Ravenheat, Keston and Sime. If you cannot see yours, ring and read us the name on the front, because a lot of boilers were sold under more than one badge. If there is no gas supply, see electric boiler repair.

I have been told nobody works on my make. Is that true?

Usually not. Some of the makes we cover are built by a much bigger manufacturer using the same parts, so the codes, the parts and the way you find the fault are all the same. Potterton and Main are built alongside Baxi, Heatline alongside Vaillant. If somebody says a part is unavailable, ask which part and which supplier they tried. An annual service is when a hard-to-find part gets spotted early.

Do you work on oil boilers?

No. We are a gas and electric firm and not oil registered, so an oil fired appliance needs an OFTEC registered engineer. That is why makes such as Firebird, Grant and Warmflow get no page here, and we do not take on commercial plant either. If you are unsure which yours is, ring and read us the name on the front. We also cover electric boilers.

How do I find out what make my boiler is?

The name is usually on the front panel, the model and serial on a label behind it. When you ring, read us whatever you can see, because the range name alone often places the code convention. Several manufacturers change the format between ranges. Mention a cylinder if there is one, because it is a second appliance and often the fault. See unvented cylinder repair.

Does the make change whether a repair is worth it?

Less than which part has broken. A circuit board or heat exchanger costs about the same whatever the badge, so on a cheaper boiler replacing it wins sooner, simply because the boiler around the part is worth less. Older discontinued models also run out of parts sooner. Everything else, sensors, electrodes, pumps and vessels, is worth repairing on any make. Our cost guide explains what drives the price.
